Vultures signal the future is now
- By Aaron Liang, Day 83, 2020
PHOENIX - Today, the Phoenix Vultures traded star big man Colin 'White Meat' Stafford and reserve Xavier Russell to the LA Fireballs for prized 2020 free agent acquisition Drayton Banks, veteran Tahric Kimbrough and the Fireballs' 2022 2nd round pick.
In a deal that will have key playoff ramifications for the fast moving Fireballs, for the Vultures, GM sik_air has finally signalled his intent to rebuild around his young core in anticipation of the retirement of league legend and Vultures stalwart Ben Winder. When asked for comment, sik_air unhelpfully (and unsurprisingly) stated, "VULTS VULTS VULTS" before leaving the room.
Banks will provide the Vultures with its first young big man prospect in over half a decade, and usher in a new focal point with former #1 pick Rasheem Fisher and #3 pick Sasha Vidmar. The deal is essentially a pre-emptive strike against the 2021 free agency class, as Banks and Kimbrough will consume $27M in salary space, however the Vultures are still expected to be major players in free agency with over $20M still expected to be available to round out the lineup. League sources indicate that the latest round of star player extensions played a factor in the team's decision making, and that separate deals were simultaneously being discussed with a view to the team's longer term goals.
The traded players will have the opportunity to suit up against their prior teams on debut on day 83.
