Mustangs Welcome Rickey Douglas
- By Joel Steelman, Day 45, 2020
DETROIT - Looking to address the immediate need for a solid second wing, the Mustangs have sent a future 2022 first round pick, Dante Rutledge, and Jared Bryson to the Miami Cyclones in exchange for Rickey Douglas and Isaac Blakney.
The deal in principal of Douglas for a pick had to be ironed out due to cap space implications, with both parties exchanging players deemed surplus for the deal to work out.
Douglas is expected to slide into the starting SG position immediately, with Vaughn shifting to SF. The move will put Douglas in the position to complement playmaker Vickery in distribution while also adding a threat to be dealt with at the 2 position.
With the Mustangs dropping several games by fewer than 5 points, Douglas' addition brings in an experienced clutch performer that can make a difference immediately.
The Mustangs are excited to see Douglas in action and will likely start him at the earliest possible game. That said, expectations are not for immediate influence as it should take time for him to adjust to Washington's coaching style, which slightly differs from Chamberlain's, and working with new teammates.
