Seattle get their man

* Seattle Thunder trade their 2025 first round pick and Dyron Mays (PG) to the Louisville Colonels

* Louisville Colonels trade Omar Croyle (C) to the Seattle Thunder

Coach Mitchell Butler was asked a few questions during a post training press conference. Part of that Q&A is below.

Vandaley: “Coach, it has seemed like you have searched for a veteran center all free agency and the beginning of the regular season. Why did you go after Omar Croyle and how do you see him fitting into the teams chemistry?”

“Well we are obviously very happy to welcome Omar to Seattle. We believe he provides valuable minutes at the center position for us. He is an athletic defensive big man that will run the floor well with us. As strange as it sounds, our defence has actually been ok this season, but we are still allowing too many points from our opponents. Omar will provide stability down low, a presence and experience at the 5 spot. This will help the teams bench depth and overall team rotations.”

Vandaley: “Speaking of bench depth, do you plan on starting Omar at the 5 spot?”

Butler: “The plan is to work him into the starting lineup. We love playing Aaron (Rowland) in the starting unit. And he deserves to start. But we are getting beaten up a bit when we play too much small ball against taller teams. An example of that would be the Cyclones game a few weeks ago. Omar starting at the 5 slides Ainsley (Tucker) back to PF, and Dontay (Sowder) back to SF. Those positions are more natural to both of them. Joh (Agau) can fill both the 4 and 5 spots off the bench and Aaron can then play back up wing at both the SF and SG positions. I feel we will get better minutes from them coming off the bench and a better minute distribution between everyone. With that said I think we will play around with the rotation from time to time to find what works best as we have done already this season.”
