Arming Up: Scorpions Acquire Clarkson from Lightning

  • By Michael Miller, Day 1, 2023

LAS VEGAS - In a true blockbuster move, the Las Vegas Scorpions acquired All-JBL Player and 2021 Defensive Player of the Year C/PF Isaiah Clarkson from the Houston Lightning for SF Pace LaGarde, C/PF Jarrell Harrison, PG/SG DeAndre Buie and the Scorpions 2026 1st round pick. For the Scorpions, acquiring a player of Clarkson's defensive ability and combining him with reigning defensive player of the year, C/PF Omar Grant was so tempting that the Scorpions were willing to part with all of their remaining flexible assets to add him.

The Scorpions are sad to let go of C/PF Jarrell Harrison, who the team projects to be an excellent defensive player. Similarly, losing Pace LaGarde may set back the team's locker-room cohesion. PG/SG DeAndre Buie was discussed as one of the steals of the draft. Nevertheless, the ability to add an All-Pro player like Clarkson was simply too tempting for Scorpions' management to pass up.

Las Vegas will now start a rotation of PG Mehdy Brown, SG Lamar Francis, SF Derrick Griffin, PF Isiah Clarkson and C Omar Grant. PG/SG Shadrach Robinson, SF Damon Murray, PF JJ Cooper and C Ivan Vacendak will be key reserves. With the recent acquisition of SF Dontay Sowder by the Thunder, the nuclear arms race is on, and the Scorpions believe they have added significant firepower to fight fire with fire.
