2020 Vision: Day 8 Recap

  • By The Commissioner, Day 8, 2020

Cyclones 87 Rockets 97

The Rockets shot poorly but pulled this one out. Nyambi shot just 3/12 from the field and 6/12 from the line for 12 points and 14 rebounds, but Shannon James (27p, 6r, 5a, 7s) and Reggie Goodwin (18p, 3a, 3s) led the way. The Cyclones turned it over 23 times and couldn’t get their offense going. Antoine Hall had 17p and 12r but fouled out in 23 minutes. Jamaine Curry had 16p and Isaiah McCarty had 15p, 14r, 5a and 6to.

Hurricanes 87 Scorpions 112

Surprisingly easy win from Las Vegas against the red hot Hurricanes, who lost their first game of the season. Dontay Sowder was unstoppable with 32p, 12r and 3b, while Lorenzen Eyles had 25p and 5r. New Orleans were locked down, with Tyson Kuberka scoring just 6 points and dishing out 7 assists. Jermaine Wade had 19p in 19 minutes but played most of the game in foul trouble, causing him to sit for long stretches. Ryan Pierce had 16p and 6r.

Skyhawks 101 Thunder 105

Seattle remains undefeated thanks to 25 points from Andre Phifer (25p, 7r, 4a) and 21p, 9r and 4a from Devan Carroll. Rookie Aaron Rowland continued to impress with 14p, 11r and 4/6 from 3P. The Skyhawks got 21p, 15r and 6b from Brian Oliver, and 21p from Jevon Novak (but only 1 assist), but gave up too many offensive rebounds and second chance points.

Vultures 106 Kings 117

Jamar Strickland had a season high 26p and 10a, and contributions from Pace LaGarde (17p, 14r, 5a) and Kelvin Black (18p, 13r) delivered the win against the struggling Vultures. Colin Stafford had 30p and 11r, and Ben Winder had 18p, 7r, 5a, but gave up 70 points in the paint and never led.

Renegades 126 Jaguars 130

Bryant Rodgers was the benefactor of Rashard Stevens missing a few weeks, hitting 32 points and grabbing 12 boards to lead the Jags to a 4 point win. Quinton Rice had 17p and early ROY favourite Kahlil Hooker hit 16p, 9r, 5a and 2b in 40min off the bench. Jerome Bradley had 41p, 4r, 9a as New York elected to start Derek Cousins, but ended up turning to Kendall Houston (26p, 7a in 29m off the bench) in the later stages of the game. Missing two starters is starting to hurt for the Renegades.

Devils 79 Stars 102

Nashville had an easy day thanks to 26p and 8r from Tezale Craig and 18p from Antoine Peeler. The Devils got 24p and 7r from Taquan Slattery, but Orpheus Swayda (11p, 8r, 5a and 4to) and Jamal Wilkinson (16p, 3r, 2a, 6s) were extremely ineffective. Marques Thomas continues to struggle with only 2p and 7a, and his poor play is starting to raise questions about whether he is the right man to run the ship in Atlanta.
