Blizzards acquire Wallace, trade Claxton to St.Louis

MINNEAPOLIS - It wasn't the plan all along but the Minneapolis Blizzards went hard early to try and sign a big name to the relatively new franchise and for that they had to pay big. Too much? Many pundits think so, but for the Blizzards it was a win in free agency that they needed to have which hopefully will result in more wins on the court.
Soon after news that Minneapolis did indeed throw a big bag of money at Donnell Wallace, a calm and collected Skyhawks general manager reached out inquiring if there was any interest in a sign and trade with another big contract, Lamar Claxton. There was. Claxton, who has been the face of the BLizzards franchise for the past two seasons will suit up for the Skyhawks in what will be the final year of his contract.
Moving Claxton will hopefully hand the reigns of this team over to rookie Donovan Mobley and sophomore Deleon Slay, forcing them both to become the building blocks of this franchise. Wallace, one of the best long range shooters in the league should on paper, provide Slay with an outlet on the arc and create more room to operate for Mobley's scoring instincts.
Moving Claxton will also give the Blizzards another shot at free agency, freeing up roughly 21 million dollars for the rest of free agency. It is unclear whether the general manager wishes to spend the rest of that and hopefully land another big name, or just hit the salary cap floor for trades during the season.
