Man Down: LA PF Stafford to Miss 5-7 Weeks Due to Injury

  • By Jron Magcale, Day 80, 2021

LOS ANGELES - It was a big stinger for the Los Angeles Fireballs as their star PF Colin Stafford went down with an injury during the first quarter of the game vs Drones. Staff has been playing well in the game as he was 2/3 FG (1/1 3FG) for 5 points, 2 rebounds, 2 blocks and 1 steal before tweaking his knee with just 9:10 of the game played. He was taken to the locker room and didn't get back with the Fireballs easily routed the Drones 117-78 lead by 37 points-15 rebounds effort of iMac and the backcourt duo of HP (27-5-7-2) and LaCruz (23-9-6-2). Outside those 3 players no one else has scored in double figures on a Fireballs uniform.

The injury was later confirmed after an MRI that Staff has strained his knee ligament and was advised that he will miss 5-7 weeks. Staff has been having sort of a down season overall stat-wise but his impact to the team has been solid. His averages weren't eye popping 12.4 ppg, 9.7 rpg, 2.8 apg, 2.5 bpg and 1.7 spg while shooting 45% FG. He has been one of the leaders of the Fireballs and has been a vital part of their 2020 Finals run. But this year it seems like age has taken its toll and he hasn't been as explosive and as dominant than he once were but then again Staff is already 35 years old going to 36 after this season and with a full 82-game schedule partner with the high pace the Fireballs has been playing with, the injury is inevitable.

"We are saddened that Staff will miss such a long stretch of games and that will be a big hit for us. That means that our bigs needs to step up, Keem (Keemar Campbell) and Jamarcus (Norwood) will probably share the minutes that Staff will leave as well as Wood (Calvin Woodard) who has been showing good signs for us as a depth in that forward spot." GM Jron said. "Everybody is new to the 82-game format and it will take a lot of getting used to, we are not yet on full grasp on resting players like the other teams who have adjusted very well, we are old school like that, we give what the fans want but sometimes to our fault that our players gets tired and injured. We'll work on our strategy moving forward we are a looong way to go we haven't even hit the All-Star festivities yet and people are dropping like flies." He added while laughing.

In addition Ty Davidson has also been placed on observation as he also injured his knee but was only diagnosed as a sore knee and will be DTD. A few players have shown fatigue throughout the stretch and LA will have a fairly brutal stretch of games as they will have a game every other day. The last time they had a 3-day rest was Day 58 (12-14-21) and then after that they will have games every other day, their next 2-day rest will be after Day 97 (1-22-21). It will be pretty hectic all season long, so the team needs to stay focused and stay healthy.
