The Boston Globe: Crusaders Complete Trade Before Season Opener, Waive Backup PG

  • By Calvin Gambling, Day 1, 2026

Crusaders receive: C Keifer Wolfe, PG Bakari Kostur
Kings receive: 2027 Lumberjacks 2nd

The Crusaders took advantage of another series of roster cuts, picking up promising young centre Wolfe and veteran point guard Kostur from the Kings. With the price only being a second round pick from presumably the top team in the West, it seemed like a low risk, high reward move from management. Wolfe is expected to split time between the J-League and backup centre minutes behind star Kahlil Hooker. Kostur may be flipped or provide stability to a position group already containing Jack Donlon and Ramil Collins. In order to make room for both players, recently signed Ortay Defoe was waived. He was a late offseason addition after not picking up a point guard back in the Devon Harrell trades. Kostur provides better competition for minutes at the one than Defoe. How coach Woods handles the point guard minutes is something to monitor moving forward, with each player reportedly having a shot at the starting job.
