LA Confidential: Fireballs Takes Series Lead 2-1 in the 2nd Round vs the Jacks

LOS ANGELES - The Fireballs has now taken the lead in their 2nd round series vs Western Conference #1 team the Portland Lumberjacks 2 games to 1. The Fireballs seems to match up well against the defensive minded Lumberjacks as they hold the season series 3-1. The Fireballs is building off from the momentum they had after winning a tough 7 game series against the Kansas City Knights who has since reportedly traded franchise star former MVP Kelvin Hawes to the Louisville Colonels for the #1 pick, #6 pick of this year's draft and future 1st round previously owned by the Lumberjacks. The 1st round series was more of a LaCruz show this series we are seeing James Spencer and Jamaine Curry stepping up more to get the Fireballs the advantage. The Fireballs has been dictating the tempo in the past 3 games forcing the Jacks to play on their pace rather than their own which seems to be working for the Fireballs.
GAME 1 - FIREBALLS 119, LUMBERJACKS 122 (AT PORTLAND)
Coming from an instant classic matchup with the Knights which ended in a 7 game series, the Fireballs went straight to Portland to battle the well-rested Jacks. The game started with the Jacks leading 31-22 in the 1st quarter but the Fireballs comes out hard in the 2nd quarter with 35-27 ending the 1st half 58-57, Jacks. The Fireballs gained the lead in the 3rd 88-86 heading to the 4th and that where the Jacks took advantage of the Fireballs tired legs scoring 36 points to the Fireballs 31 and en route for a tight 3 point win and the series first blood 1-0.
Off the bench Austin Bryant posted 24 points on 10/15 FG (2/4 3FG, 2/2 FT) to lead the Jacks in scoring while 3 other players scored 21 or more points in Dorian Sylvester (23 points, 12 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 blocks), Akieem Martin (22 points and 15 rebounds) and Jarvis McSwine (21 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks), Antoine Peeler added 18 points and 6 assists as well. The Fireballs was lead by James Spencer's 27 points, 11 rebounds, 4 blocks and 3 steals while Jamaine Curry also helped with 18 points and 6 rebounds, LaCruz added 16 points, 10 dimes, 6 rebounds and 2 steals while off the bench Dejuan Brooks posted 15 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists, Randall Dozier also was well rounded with 13 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks.
GAME 2 - FIREBALLS 121, LUMBERJACKS 106 (AT PORTLAND)
The Fireballs know if they have a chance to win the series they need to steal one in Portland and they were able to do it in game 2. The Fireballs started hot scoring 57 points in the 1st half to the Jacks' 47 having the 10-point cushion early enables the Fireballs to build off of it scoring 32 points on both the 3rd and 4th quarter while the Jacks trying to catch up and at one point in the 4th, the Fireballs were up 21 points. They were able to score in transition 14-4 well enough and also won the points in the paint 70-62. The Jacks were outrebounded as well 49-35 which is usually a key for the Jacks but in this game the Fireballs had the advantage.
Jamaine Curry (36 points and 12 assists) and James Spencer (31 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 blocks) lead the way for the Fireballs as Chris LaCruz added 18 points, 13 assists, 5 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks as well. The Jacks was lead by Akieem Martin's 23 points and 11 rebounds, while Dorian Sylvester added 18 points and 10 rebounds, Deonte Christian had 17 points, 8 assists and 5 rebounds while Antoine Peeler also scored 15 points, Jarvis McSwine finishes with 12 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds, 3 blocks and 2 steals.
GAME 3 - LUMBERJACKS 101, FIREBALLS 112 (AT HOME)
With the series tied 1-1 the Fireballs has a chance to break the series tie and take the lead and that is exactly what they did, holding a lead in the first half 50-41, the Jacks exploded for 34 points in the 3rd quarter to cut the lead to 1 heading into the 4th 76-75 but that is where Curry scored 11 points while LaCruz scores 10 out of his 28 points in the last quarter to push the Fireballs to score 36 points while the Jacks scored 26 points and eventually taking the homecourt win 112-101 putting the Fireballs leading in the series early 2-1.
LaCruz lead the team with a near triple-double 28 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists, 2 steals and 1 block, Jamaine Curry added 21 points, 4 assists, 2 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks while Dozier was again all-around with 15 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals ans 2 blocks, Aaron Taphorn posted 14 points and 6 rebounds to boot. The Jacks had 20 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists from Antoine Peeler while Akieem Martin helped him with 18 points and 9 rebounds, Jarvis McSwine added 17 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and 1 block, Dorian Sylvester posted 16 points and 6 rebounds and off the bench Austin Bryant helped out with 15 points and 5 rebounds.
